Life is made up of compromises. In every kind of relationship, we have to compromise one way or another: whether it’s with your partner, your friend, family members or work colleagues. It can be as minuscule as going to Pizza Express because your friend wants pizza but really you want Nando’s; or as life altering as not taking an opportunity because you would be too far away from your partner. So I discovered this look when I was on holiday on New Years Eve; I’d gotten a little too carried away with the festivities at the beach bar and realised I had about 40 minutes to get ready for dinner.
My hair was a mess from the beach but I didn’t have time to wash it. So I thought I need to create something that looks classy but hides how knotty my hair is. And this is the look I came up with. Continue reading “Quick Messy Dressy Bun Tutorial “
1. Go to the gym 6 times a week
2. Only eat carbs after a work out
3. Only drink alcohol once a month
4. Work hard at uni
These were my 2017 new year resolutions… doesn’t sound a lot of fun, right? My main goal was to lose weight because that’s what I thought would make me happy. I mean, surely if you’ve got a perfect body life doesn’t get much better than that? Continue reading “How 2017 changed my life “
It’s officially the best time of the year! You can drink till you’re merry and eat till you’re sleepy. The decorations get their yearly outing from the loft, you challenge your inner Rudolph with a gorgeous (not) red nose and even though day light is at its lowest, good vibes are at their highest. You might not be able to tell from looking at me but I’m a huge Hip Hop fan; I love the old, the new and everything in between. It’s always been a passion of mine and I follow the movements very closely. However, one thing that has always been the same is the way that some rappers portray women in a derogatory way; referring to them as objects. It has generally always been part of the hip hop culture, so I hadn’t really questioned it until recently. Continue reading “Taking Gender Equality By Stormzy”
Now, we all love being in our comfort zone, don’t we? We feel at ease, unpressurised and, you guessed it, comfortable. A prime example of our comfort zone is home: we all love coming home after a long day and getting that warm, homely, familiar feeling. But imagine if you never left? I always start my day with 10 minutes in bed scrolling through social media and current affairs. Pretty much every day I see the same things: skinny, 6 foot models in most fashion adverts; reality TV stars posing with a protein powder and their toned mid-drifts out; and personal trainers showing off what they’ve been doing in the gym, muscles bulging. What do all these things have in common? They don’t show stretch marks. They don’t show cellulite. They don’t show any imperfections which makes us normal women feel like we shouldn’t have them. One thing I love doing is discovering new brands. I came across Never Fully Dressed through a Facebook advert. I fell in love with so many pieces of their clothing but one in particular caught my eye. Continue reading “The Perfect Day To Night Dress”
So as you know, every month I post clothes that I’ve found that hide certain insecurities and I go into detail about the fit – and of course, say where they’re from!
The first one is this gorgeous, velvet, snake print jumpsuit from River Island. I have always been weary of jumpsuits because they don’t leave much room to hide any lumps and bumps you might want to. Continue reading “SophistaFit’s Of July”
I went to see Dunkirk at the cinema over the weekend and it really put a few things into perspective for me. First off, what a powerful film. If you haven’t seen it, it really is something that I think everyone should see. The realness and raw emotion it portrays is something like I’ve never seen. When you see what those men went through, it really does make your own problems looks incredibly insignificant. Continue reading “Beauty Vs Brains”
